the control project

In a world of restrictions and confinement, freedom could be your worst enemy.

The Control Project explores the impact of social control on the individual.

We aim to raise responsible and socially conscious young people, but what happens when you peel back the layers? When you break free and take back control – when restrictions are gone and you are finally ‘free’?

how we made the work

We asked our dancers to record their answers to a series of questions about how authority figures affected their feeling of freedom and control.

We asked dancers to recall any situations when there was no authority and things got out of control. Did they feel comfortable? We asked them to share what happened and how they felt.

From these stories and emotions from our dancers we constructed a storyline. Some felt liberated and some debilitated from having no authority figure. We worked to express this through dance and capture it on film.
