TEXT ME WHEN YOU GET HOME
Text Me When You Get Home explores the omnipresent need to carefully consider our choices around what we wear, what we do and what we don’t do in order to keep ourselves safe in a world where violence against women is a relentless reality.
how we made the work
Project Female Dance Company has worked in collaboration with EmpowHER/ UKYouth to develop a youth-led socially engaged practice with the end goal of providing a platform for our young people to amplify their call for social change.
Our dancers have identified the themes of female safety as an aspect of their world which they strongly feel need to be addressed by society. Our show highlights to a wider audience the impact that this issue will have on young women and girls in 2022 and provide a catalyst for conversations about how we can make changes to minimise this impact through social action.
Our young women reported that comments on their bodies and unwanted attention is constant in all locations throughout their lives - including school, the streets and online .
Their call for social action that would result in significant change :
We need to stop normalising sexual harassment
Women shouldn’t feel like they have to educate men on the topic
People need to listen
Educate people about consent and boundaries
People need to call it out
Education for men about the representation of women in porn industry
