Messy
The theme of Messy represents the many different ways in which life can be messy - and how being messy feels to the young women in Project Female - Messy Mentally, Messy Physically - an undesirable Mess.
It is a piece based around how the idea of a ‘perfect women’ doesn’t exist and any person that gets to be a part of a ‘messy women’s’ life is lucky to have shared their energy.
how we made the work
Using our unique co-creative practice, we worked with our young female dancers to explore what being Messy meant to them and to step into their power as imperfect young women.
We explore the questions:
What is each person’s interpretation of messy?
It will mean something different to each individual but how can this be shown in the piece?

My condolences to anyone who has ever lost me
And to anyone who got lost in me or to anyone
Who ever felt they took a loss with me
My apologies
For the misunderstanding
Or the lack there of
I'm sorry you missed the women in me
And I'm sorry you missed the light
I'm sorry you forgot the way I arose like the moon
Night after night with the burden to forgive
Eager to be me
Everyday
See
I'm a holy woman
I know what it's like to give life to a being without
Ever needing to press skin against one another
I've practised how to hold my tongue long enough
I'm afraid I forgot to say goodbye
I'm afraid you're under their impression
That I was made to please you
I was under the impression you understood me better
The truth is, I'm a superwoman
And some days I'm an angry woman
And some days I'm a crazy woman
And some days, I’m a messy women
Messy menatlly, messy physically, an undesirable mess
But that’s what makes me, me
That’s what makes me the beautiful messy women I am today
